162 Skillman Street

162 Skillman Street was a five story synagogue with a cellar and a large steel frame. This meant a labor-intensive design, heavy beams, and a lot of calculations. HY PE Engineering was contracted for a full set of structural plans. There were many heavy structures such as steel frames and thickened and reinforced floor concrete slabs.

Heavy beams were used for a fifty foot opening in the sanctuary. The plans included a large mezzanine space and additional designs of multiple types of stairs. The total area of the project was 100 feet by 75 feet and a solution was found to reduce the cost of the structure without losing load bearing capacity.
